Course description

Many photographers have invested in a combined Adobe subscription for Lightroom and Photoshop to edit their images. This course is an introduction for photographers on how to use Adobe Lightroom to import, organise and edit photographs. It will also explore the key features of Photoshop including the use of layers and masks as well as the Photoshop tools used for photo restoration.

Lightroom is the professional’s choice when it comes to organising and editing their photographs. The edits performed in Lightroom never alter or damage the original files. The use of keywords and collections facilitates easy organisation of thousands of images per catalogue. Lightroom can be daunting to the inexperienced user, but this course will introduce all the important features of the software.

Lightroom is the primary software from Adobe for editing photographs, but there are also some essential tools in Photoshop to designed to edit images including out of camera JPGs, Tiff files produced by Lightroom, and Tiff files produced from scanners for photo restoration.

This course will look at what should be done in Lightroom and what is better done in Photoshop.

Which version of Lightroom do you need

You will need to be able to bring your own computer with LR6 standalone licence or LR Classic subscription Licence.
This workshop is not for the cloud based Lightroom CC which is a truncated version of Lightroom.

What your course will cover

The class sessions will cover the following and more.

• How to create and backup LR catalogs
• How import and export images
• How to efficiently manage and locate your images by using collections, keywords, labels, ratings and metadata
• How to develop your images in LR and use the various tools and adjustments to get the best image.
• How to merge photos shot a various exposure to improve shadow/highlights detail or to merge images into panoramas.
• How to tackle developing portraits, landscapes and other image styles
• How to use the histogram, adjustment brush, spot removal tool, graduated filter, radial filter, red eye tool, crop tool, lens correction tools
• How to sharpen images, reduce noise, correct perspective and add vignettes
• How to create B/W and sepia toned images
• How to improve your workflow creating and using preset actions

What to bring

• Your own laptop with LR6 standalone licence or LR Classic subscription Licence
• Adobe’s Creative Cloud Photography plan currently offers two versions of Lightroom: Lightroom Classic and Lightroom CC. While they’re quite similar, there are differences when it comes to Lightroom Classic vs Lightroom CC that are important to know. Lightroom Classic is the full-featured desktop version of Adobe’s Lightroom image organization and manipulation software. It’s more robust than its mobile counterpart, Lightroom CC.
