This course is intended for students who have already completed Advanced Digital Cameras – Beginners to Intermediate and wish to reinforce and extend their learning.

Course description

The course is structured into practical photography and editing activities.
Topics and themes will include macro photography, portraits, raw file editing, merging images for HDR and panorama.
The course will include outdoor sessions photographing around Hobart waterfront and local parks.
Students must have a digital SLR camera, mirrorless camera or an advanced digital camera with full manual override for key settings such as shutter speed and aperture.
Students will also need to bring a laptop to some classes (limited loan computers will be available).
Students will have the opportunity to use and learn about accessories such as macro-lenses, accessory flashes, and various filters.
A tripod is recommended for this course, but loan tripods can be made available.

What your course will cover

  • Key camera settings for advanced photography
  • Use of depth of field – lenses -apertures to take your photos to the next level
  • Focusing, shutter speeds, and stabilisation for sharper images
  • Flash photography including flash compensation for beautiful environmental portraits
  • Exposure bracketing and merging to capture natural and dynamic images
  • Raw file processing with Darktable & GIMP (Basic workflow) and Lightroom (workflow) to create professional images
  • Panorama stitching for challenging subjects

What to bring

  • Camera: digital SLR or advanced digital camera with full manual override.
  • Fully charged batteries.
  • Battery charger.
  • Spare battery (if you have one).
  • User manual for the camera.
  • Any other photographic equipment and accessories you have (e.g. lenses).
  • Laptop when advised for editing tasks.
