Drawn to Nature

Weekend Workshop

Course description

This workshop is suitable for beginners to intermediate students.
Come on a creative journey as we explore realism through to abstraction using nature as our source of inspiration.
This workshop is for those wishing to gain new visual references and creative possibilities. Students will be assisted in developing their drawing skills and personal style using both traditional and experimental techniques in a variety of media.

What your course will cover

Over the two days your tutor will introduce different media, layering and inspiration opportunities with demonstrations and practical exercises. Individual and group instruction will be given with time spent appreciating work and progress throughout the sessions.

  • Learn how to ‘see’ nature more clearly, identify the geometric elements and capture the essence a subject
  • Experiment with wet/ dry media, exploring their mark-making potential in relation to the basic elements of drawing
  • Develop strategies for beginning a work, layering and making use of ‘accidental’ marks.
  • Play with scale, colour, light, volume and composition as you draw from still life compositions (organic curiosities) and photographs.
  • Work in both small-scale & large formats, focusing on abstract gestural line as well as detailed line.
