Course description

This workshop is suitable for beginners to intermediate students.

Ink drawing is a classic art form that lends itself to both sensitivity and boldness. With its vivid lines and gentle washes, ink is a very versatile medium and lots of fun to experiment with when exploring both precise and organic application techniques.

This course is best suited for beginner and intermediate artists wishing to gain knowledge of ink drawing basics and experience with the medium in various forms and subjects.

What your course will cover

  • Introduction to materials, surfaces, and tools. Explore the mark-making potential of dip pens, technical pens, painting with brushes and a variety of other tools.
  • Line and value – develop techniques for adding value and shading with a pen.
  • Ink wash – How to apply multiple layered “washes” of ink to develop tone and the illusion of form.
  • Drawing textures – How to create the illusion of textures through various mark-making techniques.
  • Landscape drawing – How to create the illusion of depth.
  • Still Life drawing – How to use lines and shading techniques to describe the form of your subject.
  • Mixing methods – How to combine ink wash with pen applications and stencilling to create a looser, more expressive image.

A list of tools and materials you need to bring for the workshop will be provided upon confirmation the course will go ahead.

Most classes fill up quickly. However, your class could be cancelled if not enough people enrol. If you are concerned about buying a class materials that may be of no use to you, please check the viability of your class with Adult Education before making your purchase.
