Course Description

This short course will familiarise you with the controls and menus associated with your digital camera.
It is recommended for all advanced digital cameras including SLR cameras, mirrorless cameras, compact and hybrid cameras with aperture priority, shutter priority and manual exposure controls.
You will be guided through the various controls, features, and options found on your camera.
Each important feature will be explained and then some practical exercises will make sure you know how to adjust these options on your own camera.
It is suitable for people who have just purchased a new camera or have had their camera for some time but do not fully understand the controls or features.

What your course will cover

  • Key concepts of digital photography including aperture, shutter speeds and ISO settings.
  • How to select the most appropriate exposure or scene mode to take the picture.
  • How to darken or lighten your exposures using various exposure controls.
  • Getting the best colour using white balance and picture style settings.
  • Choosing the right zoom setting to add impact to your compositions.
  • Controlling your flash and modifying its output to improve portraits.
  • Understanding focus and metering options.
  • Taking closeup macro photos with your camera.
  • Setting image quality correctly on the camera
  • Introduction and advise about free software to edit and process your images

Many students who complete this course also enrol in our Advanced Digital Cameras – Beginners to Intermediate course which complements the concepts taught in this course.
