German 7

Course description

This course is suitable for students who have completed German 6 or equivalent (96 hours tuition). The emphasis is on learning the practicalities of the German language to allow you to engage in conversations about yourself and situations in everyday life. All four language skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) will be practised every lesson. The course will continue with German 8 in the following term.

What your course will cover, based on Chapters 19- 21 of the book listed below.

In a relaxed, friendly and supportive atmosphere, you will learn:

  • How to talk about your health. (Ich habe Rückenprobleme; Ich fühle mich fit; Ich esse gesund).
  • How to talk about the weather. (Es ist morgens oft neblig).
  • How to talk about past holidays. (Wir sind jeden Tag mehrere Stunden Ski gelaufen).
  • How to use the simple past tense of modal verbs. (Wir konnten nur selten schwimmen gehen).
  • How to make and answer phone calls. (Ich möchte mit Herrn Schwarz sprechen).
  • How to say what belongs to whom, using the genitive case. (Das ist das Haus meines Lehrers).
  • The use of the genitive case following prepositions (Während ihres langen Lebens ist sie viel gereist.)
  • How to read job adverts and write a CV.
  • A new German proverb every week.

Resources used include German songs, poems and rhymes as well as other authentic materials such as photos, brochures, cards, recipes, newspaper clippings and objects.

What to bring

  • A pen and notebook for work done in class.
  • A folder for your many handouts – an expandable A4 folder with plastic sleeves is recommended.

Important information

  • Most language classes fill up quickly. However, your class could be cancelled if not enough people enrol. If you are concerned about buying a book that may be of no use to you then please check the viability of your class with adult education before purchasing your text.
