Course Description

Would you like to build on your Italian knowledge from the first year?

Then Italian Fast and Fun - Forward is for you!
This course is a continuation of Italian Fast and Fun – Beginners D
This course is suitable for someone who can communicate at survival level in Italian, but would like to enhance their fluency and expand their vocabulary and command of communicative expressions in Italian. If you are not sure of your level, please to not hesitate to call the tutor for a complementary phone assessment.

What your course will cover

  • 1000 most common Italian words, a large number of common Italian verbs.
  • How to construct longer sentences from commonly used expressions.
  • Functional language – shopping, talking about memories, situations and past events: describing physical and personality characteristics, giving opinions, making and accepting or refusing suggestions.
  • Social language – showing interest, appreciation, expressing surprise or displeasure, making
  • Polite requests.
  • Cultural insights – information on cultural habits, beliefs and practices.
  • Language ‘hacks’ (language learning tips)
  • Develop' cheat sheets' to deal with various conversation situations
  • Apply new vocabulary and grammar by making you specific sentences
  • The rephrasing technique for talking your way through complicated sentences.
  • Talk about the past and future using the present tense.

You will learn the following grammar

  • Use of pronouns: subject and direct and indirect object pronouns
  • use of the passato prossimo and imperfetto
  • use of the comparative
  • Use of the adverbs già/non. . . ancora.
  • the imperativo – regular, irregular and negative

What you can hope to achieve

Build on language learnt in first year
Become more familiar with language and able to ad lib conversation in several common situations, such as shopping, talking about the past, telling stories, describing people and being involved in lively Italian exchange of opinions.
More confidence in moving from present to past and future forms.
What to bring

  • Textbook purchase – Nuovo Espresso 2 : Libro, Publisher: Alma Edizioni (2014 edition) ISBN: 9788861823211 (as this text may be difficult to source students, the tutor will discuss options for sourcing the text at the first lesson)
  • Pen and notebook for work done in class.
  • A folder for some work and handouts

Important information

  • Most language classes fill up quickly. However, your class could be cancelled if not enough people enrol. If you are concerned about buying a book that may be of no use to you then please check the viability of your class with adult education before purchasing your text.
