Spanish 3

Course description

This course is the third level of a series of Spanish courses. This continuation class will provide students with confidence and ability in real language situations. Participants will follow stories about everyday situations. The material is provided in advance for preparation. The class will be conducted mainly in Spanish. No text required.

What your course will cover

Each story will be dealt with in three different ways

  • In dialogue form – as it is happening, where each ‘character’ uses the language of the situation.
  • As a narrative– where the story is recounted (as something that has already happened). Students will learn the correct use the simple past and imperfect tenses in the process.
  • As a series of questions – formulated about a past situation, using the simple past or the imperfect, according to the context.

What you can hope to achieve

The aim is to give students the ability to use the appropriate language for what is taking place, for talking about past events, and for exploring past occurrences. Students should achieve a basic capacity to:

  • speak about themselves in Spanish.
  • speak about general things with native Spanish speakers.
  • read and write in Spanish about general matters.

  • For those who have completed 2 terms (40 hours) of adult education Spanish or its equivalent.
  • As this is a very intensive course it requires students to make a substantial commitment to additional study. Julio also encourages his students to attend at least one of his additional weekly classes. These classes are free, are independent of Libraries Tasmania and are held at a city venue. Please note that it will be difficult to keep up with this class without undertaking this extra work or spending at least 2 hours per week reviewing the work undertaken in your class.

What to bring

  • Pen and note book for work done in class.
  • A folder for your many handouts – an expandable A4 folder with plastic sleeves is recommended.
  • Spanish/English dictionary.
  • Please bring a laptop or USB to the first session
