Scan & Restore Old Photographs & Films
Course description
Learn how to scan and restore old photographs, slides and negatives using an affordable flatbed scanner and free software.
What your class will cover
- Learn how easy it is to correctly scan photographs and negatives into digital files.
- Learn the important difference between Tiff and JPEG files for scanning and restoration.
- Learn which tools to use in Photoshop to fix up faded colour and B/W images.
- Learn which tools to use to repair scratches, spots and other damage on photographs.
- Learn about GIMP which is the freeware alternative to Photoshop that will restore your photos for free.
What students can hope to achieve
- Students will become competent at scanning both photograps and film.
- Students will be able to easily fix faded images and improve colour and contrast.
- Students will be able to use Photoshop or GIMP to remove and repair defects such as dust spots and scratches.
Prerequisites
- Basic computer skills using a mouse and keyboard.
What to bring
- Film and photos for scanning. USB stick recommended.
- Laptop computer
