Advanced Digital Cameras - Continuation

This course is intended for students who have already completed Advanced Digital Cameras – Beginners to Intermediate or Mastering the Camera Controls on your Advanced Digital Camera and wish to reinforce and extend their learning.

Course Description

The course is structured into seven practical photography workshops. Topics and themes will include macro photography including focus stacking, portraits with and without flash, advanced flash techniques, merging images for HDR and panorama, nighttime photography techniques with and without tripods and flashes.
The course will include outdoor evening sessions photographing around Hobart waterfront and local parks. There will also be a Saturday daytime session at a negotiated venue.
Students must have a digital SLR camera, mirrorless camera or an advanced digital camera with full manual override for key settings such as shutter speed and aperture. Students may also want to bring a laptop to some classes when software for merging images is demonstrated (limited loan computers may be available).
Students will have the opportunity to use and learn about accessories such as macro-lenses, accessory flashes, and various filters. A tripod is recommended for this course, but loan tripods can be made available.

What your course will cover

  • Macro workshop covering lenses, depth of field, focus stacking and lighting.
  • Portrait photography including composition, natural light, flashes and the use of depth of field to take your photos to the next level
  • Nighttime photography including the correct use of tripods for long exposures and hand-held techniques for casual street scene photography.
  • Flash photography including flash compensation for beautiful environmental portraits. How to use speedlights (flashes) to light interior rooms for real estate and portrait photography.
  • Exposure bracketing and merging to capture natural and dynamic images
  • Panorama stitching for challenging subjects.
  • Students will also have the opportunity to suggest topics and skills they would like to learn about.

  • Camera: digital SLR or advanced digital camera with full manual override.
  • Fully charged batteries.
  • Battery charger.
  • Spare battery (if you have one).
  • User manual for the camera.
  • Any other photographic equipment and accessories you have (e.g. lenses).
  • Laptop when advised for editing tasks.
