The course is based on the Michel Thomas method and supplemented by audio visuals, writing and role play activities, and has 4 modules, which begins with:

What your course will cover
- 100 most common italian words, a large number of common Italian verbs.
- How to construct sentences from bite sized chunks
- Italian spelling and pronunciation rules
- Telephone texting conversation

- Asking and saying how you are: sono stanca, non molto bene, bene, non c'è male...
- Giving & asking the times: Che ora è, sai l’ora? Sono le...

- Introduce yourself using 'I am'
- Ordering food and drink at a bar
- Talking about tastes: mi piace. . .
- Buying tickets to sights italianissimo video
- Use of question words
Language ‘hacks’ (language learning tips)
- Cognates – recognition of latinate English words when presented with the Italian forms.
- Deducing meaning from context
- Look for Signpost words - (question words, time expressions, modal verbs)
- Learning how to use 4 booster verbs: mi piace (interests) voglio (intentions) devo, (obligations), posso (possibilities)
- Italian Sign language, and cultural indications
You will learn the following grammar and vocab:
- Numbers from 0 – 100
- Names of common relationship identifiers, eg: marito /sorella /amico/collega
- Getting to know you – nationality, jobs, free time activities, adresses, telephone numbers
- Definite and indefinite Article, masculine and feminine,
- Noun/adjective agreement: il libro, i libri, sua penna, suo libro, brava persona, bel uomo
- Present tense of common verbs: essere/stare, avere, andare, venire, piacere, potere,
- Modal verbs – potere, dovere, volere
- Infinitive form of 30 verbs.
- Negative and interrogative forms, non, tu fai? che cosa fai?
- Question words: Come? quale? quanto ? quando ?che ?cosa ?dove?
- Prepositions and articulated prepositions, per, alle, di, dal, in nella etc.
- You formal/informal: tu/Lei
- Object, possessive and subject Pronouns: io tu lei noi voi loro, mio, mi, me, ci, etc.
- This/ that/there is/there are: questo, quello, c'è, ci sono
What you can hope to achieve

- Textbook purchase - Dieci. Lezioni di italiano. A1 ISBN: 8861826318. Your tutor will discuss the purchase options for the text at the first lesson.
- Pen and notebook for work done in class.
- A folder for some work and handouts
Important information
- Most language classes fill up quickly. However, your class could be cancelled if not enough people enrol. If you are concerned about buying a book that may be of no use to you then please check the viability of your class with adult education before purchasing your text.
