Frances Underwood is an experienced, qualified, registered teacher and education manager who has devoted much of her career to supporting the arts in education, in particular music. Her teaching experience, before being appointed a principal, included kindergarten/early childhood and several years as music specialist pre Kâ6. Frances has also taught music for the 0â5 age group in child care and is experienced at working with parents and teachers in a way that instils confidence in what may be an unfamiliar area. Frances agrees with music educator, Richard Gill, that children can be encouraged to think musically and should be given the opportunity to become musically literate, to make their own music and to appreciate music for the joy and happiness it can bring. The same can be said of adults. Frances has a Bachelor of Arts, a Diploma of Education (Early Childhood), a Graduate Certificate in Music Education, an A MUS A and in 2004 completed a Summer Course in Music Education at the Universtat Mozarteum, Salzburg. Frances is a member of the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra Chorus.
