Roberta McGregor

Roberta McGregor has an extensive background in singing, acting, directing, writing and all aspects of theatre. She has studied Voice for many years and won numerous prizes for her performances.
In 2002, Roberta released her CD Your Eyes Smile Peace on the Great White Noise label, giving several promotional recital tours of regional NSW, Sydney and Tasmania. Ms McGregor currently runs her own studio in the Shoalhaven called The Voice Express, where she teaches singing, music theory, voice and drama, and performance skills. Her duo Dolci Amore performed at the Milton-Ulladulla 2007 Escape Artsfest. Ms McGregor also performs in Coffee & Kisses, another regular performing group, and has been part of several Shoalhaven Ensemble performances in 2006- 2007. Also through her business, Roberta creates Romantic Adventures, with fine music, fine food and fine beverages.
As a singer, and events manager, Ms McGregor organized the Evening Delights concert in August 2008, for the opening celebrations of the Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre. This was the first home-grown product to be part of those celebrations. As part of the concert, Roberta gave a solo recital of substantial length, and also helped co-ordinate the smooth running of the massed choir formed especially for the occasion, as well as inviting local pianist Arthur Bowcher to perform.
She has been guest artist and soloist for recitals and choral works, such as Mozart’s Requiem, Handel’s Judas Maccabeus, The Messiah and also works by Mendelssohn, Britten and Purcell. She has performed in a diverse range of music and drama productions, some of which include Opera, Light Opera, G&S, Music Theatre and Drama: roles such as Fiona in Brigadoon; Julie in Showboat; Cousin Nettie in Carousel; Valencienne & Anna in The Merry Widow; Lady Ella in Patience; Phyllis & Iolanthe in Iolanthe; Vittoria in The Maid of The Mountains; Barbarina & The Countess in The Marriage of Figaro; Countess Aurelia (The Madwoman) in The Madwoman of Chaillot, are among many.
Ms McGregor has directed such productions as Brigadoon, Conversation-Sinfonietta, Behind The Crystal Door, Ten Times Table, Savages, The Bright Side of Life and for children, Ginger & Pickles and The Tailor of Gloucester. She has designed productions, both sets and lighting, and costumes, with practical work in all areas of theatre.
Also a qualified Visual Artist with an Associate Diploma in Art, Craft & Design from TAFE, Roberta enjoys painting murals and holding group and solo exhibitions around Australia, winning prizes for her work in religious art. Since living in the Shoalhaven area, she has held solo exhibitions at Mrs Top’s in Milton as part of the 2007 Escape Artsfest, and in 2008 at the Jervis Bay Veterinary Clinic and also Laura’s Garden Café in Sanctuary Point.
Ms McGregor will be Artist-In-Residence at The Cataract Gorge, Tasmania, through the Launceston City Council’s Parks and Recreation Program from August to October, 2009. Roberta has organized a program of events which include weekend singing workshops and a recital, a visual arts exhibition, and performance art pieces, one which includes wrapping the cottage and toll-house for International Peace Day celebrations on 21st September 2009.
As part of her business, The Voice Express, Roberta creates Sacred Spaces where she explores through visual art, music and performance poetry, religious, philosophical, theological and metaphysical concepts. Roberta is also a published poet.
