Marieke was born and grew up on a farm in the Netherlands. When she finished studying Environmental Science she spent time travelling in New Zealand and Australia. Her family moved to Australia shortly after this and she says that both herself and her family love living in Tasmania and enjoy the natural beauty. She is married to a local Tasmanian.
