Barry is a metal machinist by trade, a former N.S.W. Ambulance Paramedic by profession and a woodturner by desire. He started woodturning in 1982 at the Woodturning Centre in Sydney, where he learned woodturning as a trade and gained experience in teaching woodturning. Since moving back to Hobart in 1989 he has been involved with teaching Adult Education classes, Art Craft and Design classes and, the specialist 4 week woodturning classes run by the Carpentry and Joinery Department, Clarence Polytechnic, and teaching woodturning to year 10 students in the Invest program. His skill in design has been instrumental in the success of two Tasmanian businesses. He has travelled extensively around Australia demonstrating for major companies such as P & N Tools, Vicmarc Machinery and as the leading demonstrator for Durden Machinery, Adelaide. His courses cater for every clients’ needs from the hobbyist to those wanting a career as a professional woodturner. He enjoys riding motorcycles.
