Course Description

Would you like a course where you listen, think and speak Italian from the word go?

Would you like to ace your travel language, with simple communication formulas?

Would you like to do this in a safe, fun and engaging environment?

Then this is the course for you: the method of all Italian Fast and Fun courses is founded on a ‘build as you go’ method. The student is enabled to correctly construct sentences from the word go, and are then given guided speaking practice with the vocabulary, expressions and functions required to fulfill the CEFR requirements for the A1 level in the Italian language.  (To communicate about oneself, immediate needs, one’s physical and social environment using simple sentences with a sympathetic interlocutor who comunicates slowly and clearly.)

A1.1 is the second term of the course for beginners in Italian, will be followed by A1.2 in the third term, etc. till A1.4 in the fifth term. Usually the A1 level will be acquired by then.

What your course will cover

• Review, consolidation and expansion on all grammar and topics covered in A1
• Numbers from 0 – 1,000. Ordinal numbers, decimal notation.
• Clothing lexis and shopping terminology
• Study of Italian culture, through video and textbook material.
• Talking about activities and weather in different seasons of year
• Making complaints about Hotel room
• Asking and giving directions
• Shopping for clothes and bargaining in street market
• Names of common relationship identifiers, eg: marito /sorella /amico/collega
• Expressions on the telephone
• Present simple and imperativo
• The body and visit to the doctor
• More question words
• Describe appearance and personality traits

What to Bring

• Textbook purchase -  Dieci. Lezioni di italiano. A1 ISBN: 8861826318. Your tutor will discuss the purchase options for the text at the first lesson.
• Pen and notebook for work done in class.
• A folder for some work and handouts

Important information

• Your tutor will supply all materials for this class.
• Most language classes fill up quickly. However, your class could be cancelled if not enough people enrol. If you are concerned about buying the textbook that may be of no use to you then please check the viability of your class with Adult Education before purchasing your textbook.
• The Italian language program follows the Common European Framework for Languages (CEFR), which has become the international reference for learning and teaching European languages, as well as assessing language acquisition. Students may wish to sit for the CILS, CELI, or PLIDA exams.
• The CEFR is divided in 4 levels:
  • A1 level: 5 terms of Adult Education (A1 – A1.4)  completed within around 100 hours: Students are able to introduce themselves, talk about their hobbies, explain where they live, describe relationships etc.
  • A2 level: 7 terms of Adult Education (Italian pre-Intermediate), completed within around 140 hours: Students are able to communicate and exchange on familiar and habitual subjects.
  • B1 level: 11 terms of Adult Education (Italian Independent) completed within around 210 hours: Students are able to interact with ease in Italian on their work and topics of their interest with native speakers. They can talk about their plans, hopes and dreams for the future.  B1 is the level required for people who wish to apply for Italian citizenship and can eventually be tested by the CILS B1 Cittadinanza exam, or equivalent
  • B2 level. Students are able to communicate with a degree of spontaneity and ease. 

Please note that children must not attend this class unless it is a specified parent/child activity.

Cancellations and Refunds
Please choose your course carefully. A full refund is payable in the event that a class is cancelled. No other refunds are considered except for extenuating circumstances which are supported by a written application.
