Italian Fast and Fun - Beginners A1
Course Description
Would you like a course where you listen, think and speak Italian from the word go?
Would you like to order your cafè in style, served with a dash of Italian culture?
Would you like to do this in a safe, fun and engaging environment?
Then this is the course for you: the method of all Italian Fast and Fun courses is founded on a ‘build as you go’ method. The student is enabled to correctly construct sentences from the word go, and are then given guided speaking practice with the vocabulary, expressions and functions required to fulfill the CEFR requirements for the A1 level in the Italian language. (To communicate about oneself, immediate needs, one’s physical and social environment using simple sentences with a sympathetic interlocutor who comunicates slowly and clearly.)
No textbook purchase is required
What your course will cover:
- A strong focus on pronunciation and speaking.
- How to discern Italian words from English Latin based cognates.
- Suffixes to create adjectives from nouns and adverbs from adjectives.
- Interrogative and negative, definition of grammatical parts of speech
- Use of modal verbs with infinitive and personal pronouns
- The definite articles la, le, il, i. singular and plural endings of nouns and adjectives
- Numbers one to 12, telling time, Time expressions, days of the week
- Giving and asking for personal details
- Describing preferences and daily routine
- Question words, che cosa, perché and quando.
- Ordering food and drink at a bar and restaurant
- Introduction to shopping for clothes
- Making travel plans and bookings, appointments with friends

A pen and notebook for work done in class
What you can hope to achieve
- Learn a thinking method involving mnemonics which will help you to ‘work’ out any language items you may forget.
- Talk about yourself, people you are close to and your immediate physical environment with simple sentences.
- Communicate with people who are prepared to slow down their learning speed and help with language prompts.
Important information
- Your tutor will supply all materials for this class. If you are not sure of your level, please contact Patrizia who will organise a quick assessment of your level.
- Most language classes fill up quickly. However, your class could be cancelled if not enough people enrol by the enrolment deadline.
- The Italian language program follows the Common European Framework for Languages (CEFR), which has become the international reference for learning and teaching European languages, as well as assessing language acquisition. Students may wish to sit for the CILS, CELI, or PLIDA exams.
- The CEFR is divided in 4 levels:
- A1 level: 5 terms of Adult Education (A1 – A1.4) completed within around 100 hours: Students are able to introduce themselves, talk about their hobbies, explain where they live, describe relationships etc.
- A2 level: 7 terms of Adult Education (Italian per-Intermediate), completed within around 140 hours: Students are able to communicate and exchange on familiar and habitual subjects.
- B1 level: 11 terms of Adult Education (Italian Independent) completed within around 210 hours: Students are able to interact with ease in Italian on their work and topics of their interest with native speakers. They can talk about their plans, hopes and dreams for the future. B1 is the level required for people who wish to apply for Italian citizenship and can eventually be tested by the CILS B1 Cittadinanza exam, or equivalent
- B2 level. Students are able to communicate with a degree of spontaneity and ease.
Please note that children must not attend this class unless it is a specified parent/child activity.

Cancellations and Refunds
Please choose your course carefully. A full refund is payable in the event that a class is cancelled. No other refunds are considered except for extenuating circumstances which are supported by a written application.
