Spanish Beginners C

Course description

This course is a continuation course from Beginners – Module A & B. It is suitable for people who want to travel to Spain or Latin America or who are interested in learning Spanish for personal interest or development. New students wishing to enrol in this course should have done 16-20 hours of Spanish. The course focusses on being able to communicate in everyday situations. In Module C we will study units 5 and 6 of the textbook (see details below). This is not an intensive course but it will require some study and doing weekly homework. The class will continue on to the next level if there are sufficient enrolments. Textbook for this level is not required but students may purchase it if they wish (see details below).

What your course will cover

  • Ordering food in a restaurant: de primero quiero una ensalada mixta.
  • Talking about your likes/dislikes: ¿Te gusta comer fuera de casa? Sí, me encanta
  • Free time & hobbies: me gusta mucho bailar, pero no me gusta nada cantar
  • Understanding a cooking recipe: pela los plátanos y córtalos en rodajas
  • Choosing a restaurant: Sabrosos platos peruanos, pescados a la brasa.
  • Using public transport: Perdone, desde aquí ¿Cómo se va al aeropuerto?
  • Giving & understanding instructions: Cierra la ventana, por favor.
  • Asking a favour: ¿Puedes hablar más bajo, por favor?
  • Describing our neighbourhood: Es un barrio muy tranquilo y tiene un hermoso parque.
  • Saying where you live: Mi casa esta en la calle Goya, cerca de la estación del metro

You will learn the following grammar:

  • Revision and practice of verbs in the present tense studied so far.
  • Introduction of the verb gustar to express likes and dislikes: a María le gusta el café
  • Revision of verbs SER and ESTAR: es una calle ruidosa pero está bien comunicada.
  • Common imperative verbs for instructions & commands: ven, pon, tome, siga, diga …

You will learn the following vocabulary:

  • More vocabulary related to food and drinks
  • Leisure activities and hobbies
  • The city and public transport
  • More vocabulary related to leisure time and daily activities

What you can hope to achieve

  • Continue your learning from the previous level
  • Practicing everyday language in everyday situations with dialogues and role plays.
  • Acquire basic reading, speaking, writing and listening skills
  • Use of audio-visual resources as required
  • Learn about the lifestyle and diverse cultures of Spanish-speaking countries

Important information

  • Most language classes fill up quickly. However, your class could be cancelled if not enough people enrol. If you are concerned about buying a book that may be of no use to you then please check the viability of your class with Adult Education before purchasing your text.
