Spanish Beginners D

Course description

This course is a continuation course from Beginners – Module C. It is suitable for people who want to travel to Spain or Latin America or who are interested in learning Spanish for personal interest or development. New students wishing to enrol in this course should have done 20 -24 hours of Spanish. The course focusses on being able to communicate in everyday situations. In Module D we will study units 7 and 8 of the textbook over 2 terms (see details below). This is not an intensive course but it will require some study and doing weekly homework. The class will continue on to the next level if there are sufficient enrolments. Text book for this level is required (see details below).

What your course will cover

  • Talking on the phone: Hola ¿está Andrés?
  • Asking to go out: ¿Vamos el cine esta tarde?
  • Accepting/rejecting: ¡Estupendo! Lo siento, no puedo tengo mucho trabajo
  • Talking about what people are doing: ¿qué estás haciendo? Estoy lavándome el cabello
  • Describing a person: es joven, lleva gafas
  • Talking abot likes/dislikes/hobbies: Su comida preferida es la pasta. Le gusta bailar
  • Asking for directions: ¿Puede decirme cómo se va al Museo Picasso?
  • Saying what you did yesterday: ¿A qué hora te levantaste ayer? Me levanté a las 8
  • Describing the weather: En Australia hace calor en enero, pero en Europa hace frío
  • Talking about travelling in Spain: Por Semana Santa fui con mis amigos a Granada

You will learn the following grammar:

  • Revision and practice of verbs studied so far.
  • The present continuous (estar + gerund): estoy cantando, estamos bebiendo vino
  • Present continuous of reflexive verbs: me estoy lavando el pelo/estoy lavándome el pelo
  • Uses of ser, estar, tener, llevar in personal descriptions: es un chico generoso, es alto …
  • The simple past (el pretérito indefinido): ayer empecé a trabajar a las 9 y terminé a las 5
  • The imperfect tense : antes salía con mis amigos

You will learn the following vocabulary:

  • Vocabulary related to daily activities, leisure activities and hobbies
  • Descriptions of character and physical characteristics
  • The city and directions
  • The weather, the months and seasons
  • Colours & clothes
  • Parts of the body

  • Continue your learning from the previous level
  • Practicing everyday language in everyday situations with dialogues and role plays.
  • Acquire basic reading, speaking, writing and listening skills
  • Use of audio-visual resources as required
  • Learn about the lifestyle and diverse cultures of Spanish-speaking countries

  • Most language classes fill up quickly. However, your class could be cancelled if not enough people enrol. If you are concerned about buying a book that may be of no use to you then please check the viability of your class with adult education before purchasing your text.
